Jack ArrowsmithDear Douglas County Elections Volunteers:

As we finalize Douglas County's report to the state on the largest election in our history, I want to recognize and thank the 1,000-plus Douglas County citizens who worked side by side with Elections staff to provide our voters the 2008 Douglas County General Election.

From implementation of the primary election to the processing of more than 108,000 mail ballots, to early voting to election day itself, volunteers make it happen.

For an election of this size the County moves from a permanent staff of eight to those eight plus a temporary staff of 1,000.
Election staff spends numerous hours preparing for and training our Election Judges.

Each volunteer receives many hours of training. Volunteers become our poll manager, poll book judges, voter aids and other poll site workers; temporary election clerks, information technology specialists, data entry clerks, and others who help with ballot signature verification, counting and processing, transportation, and poll site set up.

We couldn't do it without you. You are true public servants and champions of democracy.

As the County's chief elections officer, I thank you most sincerely.

Respectfully yours,

Jack Arrowsmith
Douglas County Clerk and Recorder
